Our Mission:
“Preparing today's youth for the workplace of tomorrow.”
- SUPPORTING organizations involved in improving the relevance, quality and range of educational opportunities in South Central Pennsylvania with the goal of preparing all youth to succeed in tomorrow’s workplace.
- BUILDING a network of Educators, Businesses and Caregivers across the region to share ideas and resources to enhance the educational process and benefit our youth. Building consortia of businesses working to inform educators of the needs specific to their industries.
- INFORMING parents, educators and youth of the variety of career paths and educational opportunities that exist in the region.
- ORGANIZING the resources that benefit the education of youth, act as a clearinghouse for information on post-secondary education, labor statistics, apprenticeships, business trends, and emerging opportunities that can impact employment in our region.
- RECOGNIZING those that continue to improve the quality of education and educational services for youth in our region.
Our Vision:
"To serve as a "clearinghouse" and facilitator for youth assessment and services, which addresses all the needs of in-school youth, out-of-school youth, and youth with special needs."
There are currently thousands of job and career opportunities for our young people today and in the foreseeable future. Major industries are desperately seeking trained persons to assume these positions. The industries with the greatest need in our region are:
- Health
- Manufacturing
- Construction
- Information Technology
- Hospitality
A whopping 80% of the jobs currently available require two (2) years of college or trade school or less. The average starting wages for most of these positions range from $19,500 to over $32,500.
While the Youth Council promotes "Life Long Learning", we understand the serious need to promote alternatives to the traditional "four-year college". One way the Youth Council is addressing this situation is through our S-MAC Project.
