OJT - On-The-Job Training
On-the-Job training can improve your attractiveness to an employer if you're lacking certain job qualifications, or if the job requires a specific skill you may not be able to acquire otherwise. Through On-the-Job training, the employer agrees to provide training for up to six months while you learn the skills for the position. During that time, a portion of your salary would be supplied by the Commonwealth Workforce Development System (CWDS). There is no charge to the candidate or the employer for On-the-Job training.
Classroom training can enhance your skills or help you earn certifications to advance your career. These skills or certifications may be provided by trade or technical schools, online courses, college programs, or other training programs. The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) provides funds for PA residents who qualify. The funds, known as Individual Training Accounts (ITAs), can be used to pay for tuition, books, fees, and other costs associated with the training, assuming the resident has also applied for Pell, PHEAA and related grants when they are available. PA CareerLink® can help residents apply for ITAs and find eligible training providers through CWDS. Once each week we also offer an information session regarding the training and funding process.
