Healthcare
The HealthCare cluster represents industries that provide for the health and well-being of Pennsylvania residents. Direct Patient Care forms the cornerstone. Others include support industries such as ambulance services, retail drug stores and health insurance carriers as well as public agencies that oversee health programs.
The shortage of staff in the caring fields - certified nurse assistants, licensed practical nurses, nursing home and home care workers - has created a crisis in the Commonwealth's health care industries. Priority must be given to creating healthcare career paths, providing appropriate training, and developing strategies for retention.
The Partnership has successfully utilized funding from the PA Department of Labor & Industry to develop supervisory skills of front-line staff and mid-to executive level professionals. Most recently, the Partnership addressed the impact of generational and cultural diversity in the workplace, responding to this need with industry-driven training.
Outcomes achieved to date include:
- More than 1200 workers trained
- Engaged more than 300 employers, including small, medium and large organizations representing acute care, long-term care, direct care, allied health, and more
- Leveraged more than $2 million in cash and in-kind resources targeted to industry efforts
