Ex Offenders

Soon-to-be released and/or recently paroled Ex-offenders are provided the same services as all other job seekers. Many area halfway houses require them to use our system for their job search. Whether they visit us voluntarily or out of obligation, ex-offenders will receive the same individualized attention and career guidance from our staff as any other visitor. Our Career Specialists will aid these job-seekers in applying for job readiness workshops, computer or adult education, and/or classroom training to improve their skills and value to potential employers.

In addition, we will inform ex-offenders of the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC), which provides incentives to the employer who hires them. We also discuss the Federal Bonding Program with them, which protects employers from employee theft or dishonesty. Having the Federal Bonding Program available reduces many employers' hesitations about hiring ex-offenders. Finally, our experience with area businesses allows us to advise ex-offenders about the employers with whom they might best fit.

During their visit to CareerLink®, all self-identified ex-offenders will be given a resource packet including information on the Federal Bonding Program and the Work Opportunity Tax Credit, and advice on things like how to talk with potential employers about their background and how to frame a resume that is both accurate and appealing.

In addition, the Capitol Region Ex-Offenders Support Coalition meets monthly in our auditorium. Please click here to check the schedule of events for the next meeting.
